Amanda Barone, B.Sc, R.Ac, R.Kin
Acupuncturist & Kinesiologist
Amanda Barone is a Registered Acupuncturist with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner’s and Acupuncturists of Ontario (CTCMPAO). Growing up as a competitive figure skater lead her to have a constant fascination with the human body and how it functions. This inspired her to enroll in the Kinesiology and Health Sciences program at York University. Upon graduation, she continued her studies at the Toronto School of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TSTCM) and graduated with a Diploma in Acupuncture. It was here that she learned the intricate relationship between a person’s physical, emotional and spiritual health and the impact this has on one’s overall health and wellness.
By performing a thorough assessment and health history, Amanda is able to identify key areas of dysfunction in her patients. Her goal is to look at the “big picture” and figure out the exact cause of a person’s pain or disease and to determine any other contributing factors. With a combination of acupuncture, exercise and lifestyle recommendations, Amanda works with her patients to help them achieve their health goals. She believes in creating a strong patient-practitioner relationship and focuses a lot of attention on educating her patients on different self-care techniques they can utilize such as acu-pressure, meditation, breathing exercises and creating a ‘sleep sanctuary.’
Amanda is also a Registered Kinesiologist with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario (CKO). As an added benefit to her patients, she incorporates stretching and strengthening exercises into her treatment plans as well as education about proper posture and movement patterns. Amanda is an active member of the Ontario Kinesiology Association (OKA).
Amanda is certified in Acudetox through the National Acupuncture Detox Association (NADA). This is a treatment protocol used to help people overcome behavioural health issues including addictions, mental health and coping with disaster and emotional trauma. Amanda most commonly uses Acudetox in the clinic to help people successfully quit smoking.
Amanda is also trained in Medical Acupuncture after completing the Contemporary Medical Acupuncture course at McMaster University. She integrates a unique combination of both Eastern and Western styles of Acupuncture into her treatments. This allows her to draw on various types of training in order to yield the best clinical results.
Amanda has a special interest in treating infertility, insomnia and digestive disorders.
At the age of 87, the famous painter Michelangelo once said, “Ancora Imparo,” which translates to “I am still learning.”
Amanda is constantly taking courses to improve and advance her clinical skill and knowledge. She continuously learns new acupuncture and healing techniques in order to provide her patients with the most up-to-date and effective treatments available.
