Cosmetic Acupuncture – For Natural and Healthy Skin

Cosmetic Acupuncture Needle Insertion

How Does Cosmetic Acupuncture Work?

Cosmetic Acupuncture (also known as facial rejuvenation acupuncture) is a natural treatment based on the Traditional Chinese Medicine principle of “healthy skin from within.” The treatments are holistic in nature and work on balancing the inner and outer signs of early aging caused by physical, mental or emotional imbalances.

When you start to age in a way that looks and feels unhealthy to you, it is an indication of an obstruction of Qi and blood to your face. Acupuncture works to increase blood flow which will even your skin tone and help your face and skin look more radiant (in Chinese medicine, we call this increasing your vitality).

The insertion of acupuncture needles also helps to encourage the production of collagen and elastin, which naturally decline as you age. Collagen is responsible for maintaining our skins durability and resilience, while Elastin helps to maintain the elasticity of our skin. This will help to smooth out the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

During an acupuncture “facelift” needles are inserted into motor-points to help re-educate muscles back into their original placement which helps to lift sagging or drooping skin and makes the face look more sculpted.

What can Cosmetic Acupuncture Help with?

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Drooping or sagging skin
  • Sun damage
  • Acne, rosacea
  • Scars
  • Bags under eyes
  • Reduced puffiness
  • Brighter complexion
  • More even skin tone
  • Stress reduction

What can I expect at my first cosmetic acupuncture appointment?

Your initial visit is about an hour and a half long and will include an assessment as well as a treatment. During this time, we will address any concerns you have with regards to your skin/appearance and discuss how acupuncture can help as well as the expected benefits and outcomes.

Because the treatments are based on Traditional Chinese Medicine, we will also take a thorough health history and organ assessment to determine your “body constitution” and TCM diagnosis. This helps us to guide the treatment and make it more specific to your unique constitution, which improves results.

If you have any other health issues such as poor sleep, digestive discomfort, stress, pain, menstrual irregularities, etc these will also be incorporated into your treatment plan and worked on during the same visit.

Needles are retained for about 25-30 minutes and then carefully removed at the end of the treatment.

All needles are high quality, single-use, sterilized needles. They are solid with a filiform tip. We are not injecting you with any medication or herbal substance. The needles trigger your own body’s self-healing mechanisms.

Cosmetic Acupuncture VS Botox?

I often hear cosmetic acupuncture compared to Botox and even being referred to as a “natural Botox.” Despite them sharing a common goal, they are, in fact, completely opposite. Botox involves injecting a substance that causes muscle paralysis. Acupuncture on the other hand is a dynamic treatment and works to activate cellular regeneration to the area where the needles are placed. Because of this, if you have recently had Botox, you will need to wait 3 months before performing acupuncture to that area. Once the integrity of the nervous system has been restored (i.e the muscles are no longer paralyzed), you can come for a cosmetic acupuncture treatment.

At the end of the day, the decision to use acupuncture or Botox lies with your personal choice. If you prefer more of a natural, holistic approach with minimal side effects, than acupuncture is the clear winner.
